Wedding editorial workshop at Butley Priory, Suffolk
On March 19th I went to a wedding editorial workshop at Butley Priory in Suffolk and I’m not even exaggerating when I say… I left feeling SO creatively recharged 🤍
Now before anyone says “but it’s not a real wedding” – I know. And that’s actually the whole point.
Workshops like this give you the space to just play. No timelines, no pressure, no “we’ve got 5 minutes left” panic. Just time to try new things, test ideas, and figure out what actually feels like you.
What we did (and why I loved it)
We had two sets of models plus a solo model, so there was loads to work with. We were put into groups of four (a mix of photographers and content creators), and from there… it was completely on us.
No one telling us how to pose people.
No “stand here, do this” instructions.
We had to direct everything ourselves – which I actually loved because it pushes you out of your comfort zone a bit.
We shot a mix of:
- bridal prep (my fave, always 🥹)
- table styling + details
- flat lays (you already know I was in my element here)
- and the dreamiest outdoor setup
And even though it’s styled, everything you see in my photos – the poses, the little moments, the way it’s framed – that all comes from us. That’s why I think workshops like this are so underrated.
Why I think workshops are actually worth it
I’ll be honest, I used to be a bit like “are they really worth it?”… but now I get it.
They’re not about pretending it’s a real wedding. They’re about:
- trying new ideas without overthinking it
- building confidence directing people
- seeing how other creatives work (you learn SO much just by watching)
- and creating the kind of work you actually want to book more of
It’s basically a reset when you feel a bit stuck or samey.

Final little thoughts
Days like this just remind me why I love photography in the first place. No pressure, no expectations… just creating.
